Using Workflowy for Outlining Blog Posts on Niche Site Project – Blogging Tips – Behind the Scenes

With the many distractions that come along with working on the computer, it’s often better to work away from it.

On the laptop, you’ll usually have around six other tabs open including pages like GMail. Constantly getting messages drags you away from the task you’re meant to be working on.

Especially if it’s hard and you don’t really want to be working on it!

Something like good old fashioned pen and paper can work wonders if you’re looking to plan something without getting distracted.


However, you eventually have to move on to the computer. And for a while now I’ve been searching for a way to take digital notes.

Lot’s of text editors such as Word and Evernote can feel too formal for note taking. They’re clunky and complicated.

An app that I’ve found has helped me a lot with my distractions is the outlining program Workflowy.

The great thing about this program is that it allows you to outline everything without getting into the details.

It’s probably one of the most underwhelming apps you’ll come across. At first glance, it looks a little like Microsoft Word stuck in bullet point mode, but after playing around with it a bit, you’ll see that it’s a great way for organising your thoughts.

If you’re writing a long post, you can just view the sub-headings to make sure that your ideas flow and you’re not getting lost in the content of each section. Instead of having to spend time scrolling up and town the page to see the subheadings you can minimise them all.

Some people use this as a product management tool, and some people use this as a to-do list.

There are lots of keyboard shortcuts that will enable you to get pretty ninja at using it. And the best bit about this program is that it’s FREE.

So check it out if you find yourself getting distracted from the task you have at hand.

However, one of the products biggest pros is also one of its downfalls. As it’s so simple, there are some things it can’t do. You’re unable to set alarms, reminders, files or even format the text.

If you’re in search of these features, then Workflowy may not be the tool required to satisfy your needs.

So the bottom line is the Workaway is a quick little web-based app for making lists. It embraces both simplicity and interactive design.

I personally love the simplicity, and this is the reason that I’ll continue to use it for internet marketing and blogging.
